Louis Lubega also known as “Master Rui” is a Ugandan animation director, storyteller, and comic book creator with a Master of Arts in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking from GOBELINS, Paris. A recipient of the prestigious Netflix Scholarship, he directed the acclaimed short film Kakomando, which has been showcased at film festivals worldwide, including in Japan. His comic book Olwatuuka was featured in the African section of the Volkenkunde Museum, highlighting his talent for weaving traditional African themes into his storytelling.

Master Rui also holds a bachelor’s degree in animation from India, enriching his creative perspective with diverse cultural influences. Recently, he co-ordinated the East African Animation Bootcamp in collaboration with Katoto Studios, GOBELINS Paris, and the French Embassy which birthed the “cartoons from the source of the Nile” animated anthology”

As a child, Master Rui was exposed to Japanese anime  with series like Naruto which greatly contributed to his choice to pursue a career in animation.
